Math in our daily lives.

Children are naturally curious and inquisitive. When children understand the importance of Math at an early age,  it makes it easier for them to enjoy it and grow to love the subject.

When will I ever use Math at home?

All the time! Recognising numbers, timetabling, getting the correct change, even telling the time… Math is every where!

Incorporate learning into a child’s daily life at an early age. Learning should not be confined to just the classrooms! Here are some suggestions.

Activities for your 3 to 4-year-old

Once your child has learned to recognise numbers, play number games to include counting and simple math.
  • Practice counting in ascending and descending order. You can do so while walking upstairs, counting vehicles, or even whilst playing at the playground
  • Addition and subtraction can be included in daily activities such as buying groceries or counting toys

Activities for your 4 to 6-year-old

When counting is a breeze, challenge your child to add math to every journey.

  • Add up the numerals of bus numbers or license plates when travelling. It’s a great way to pass time, get some friendly competition and practice mental math.
  • Practice telling the time by getting your child an analog watch and creating a timetable to follow

Activities for your 6 to 8-year-old

  • Being able to handle money effectively is a vital life skill. Get your child familiar with the concept of money, dollars, and cents, and even get the correct change. You can even incorporate budgeting by giving a weekly allowance for him or her to manage.
  • Involve your child in baking to reinforce fractions and units of measurement
